COMB Data Breach: CHANGE YOUR PASSWORDS!
The largest data breach ever recorded was recently revealed. More than 3 billion personal and professional usernames and passwords for Gmail, Hotmail, LinkedIn, and Netflix are now available to hackers.
Nicknamed COMB, short for “Compilation of Many Breaches,” this dataset is actually a compilation of data gathered following several attacks on major companies.
The amount of information that has been disclosed is so extensive that we recommend you change your personal and professional login credentials as soon as possible.
What Are the Risks to Your Business?
Many users have the same login credentials for a wide range of platforms and tools, which allows hackers to quickly gain access to several of their accounts. The impact of this breach on consumers and businesses could therefore be unprecedented.
In particular, we may be concerned about:Â
> Theft of sensitive personal data (financial, health-related, etc.) and identity theft.
> A surge in malicious emails (phishing, spam), which serve as entry points for ransomware, malware, and cryptolockers.
How can you protect yourself from it?
1– Check to see if your email addresses are in the hacker database using the search engine on the Cybernews magazine website, which was created for this purpose, or the "Have I Been Pwned" website. (In English)
2– Whether or not you've been hacked, follow best practices to prevent your data from being stolen.
- Change your passwords right away, and make sure to do so regularly in the future. Vary them as much as possible.
- Use a password manager to protect your accounts.
- Use strong passwords (ANSSI guide)
- Use two-factor authentication and multi-factor authentication whenever they are offered.
ITrust can help you prevent and defend against these attacks:
- By verifying the security of your network throughregular security audits
- By training your employeeson security best practices and testing themthrough phishing campaigns
- By providing you with tools:
- The IKare vulnerability scanner, available as a free trial, detects vulnerabilities in an information system in accordance with best practices in vulnerability management.
- Reveelium SIEM UEBA, which detects known and unknown cyber threats (APTs, malware, viruses, data leaks, etc.) by analyzing abnormal behavior within information systems.
